One of the ways search engines determine site ranking is to sort through your online content and rank the site based on repeated keywords or phrases. Content rich websites have found success in Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategies. While I highly recommend this strategy there is another viewpoint that is less dependent on content for exposure for site rankings.

Some webmasters are strong proponents of non-content SEO strategies. These technical experts rely very heavily on meta-title and other html or code-based SEO strategies for sites that are less content oriented.

Purists on both sides of the argument will say their approach is far superior to the other. For the content sites they can judge their success through keyword strategies that are observable in long-term site rankings. For the non-content sites they can observe keywords or phrases being used to determine site rankings from a more technical source in behind-the-scenes code.

So, which is the better approach?

Both.

This really is a matter of being able to have your cake and eat it too. You can maximize SEO strategies in the coding on your site while infusing your website with knowledge based original content. The combination of these two strategies can work with greater efficiency than either strategy alone.

If you are ill equipped to manage coding then you should work tirelessly to incorporate knowledge based articles into your website.

The standard negative reply to this concept is when a business is primarily selling a product or service and do not feel original content really works with their online store.

If, for instance, your business sells blocks of gourmet cheese you could incorporate original articles on the various cheese offerings, their taste and texture and the history behind each cheese type. You could incorporate articles that provide recipes that include the cheese types you provide.

Hopefully you get the idea, by adding knowledge-based articles you can assist your site ranking, help your customer and minimize the need for coded SEO strategies until you learn how best to implement the non-content SEO.

There will always be a battle as to which SEO strategy is best, but I will go so far as to say the best strategy will be the one that includes both concepts to the best of the web owner’s capabilities.

While some want to make the issue an either/or decision it is really a both/and solution.

However you optimize your site, work to the best of your ability to implement strategies that work for you long-term. Too many strategies are short-term props that help you very little in the grand scheme of the life of your website.

“PageRank” an algorithm for assigning weightage to each page of World Wide Web is a patented trademark of Google. This has been patented to Stanford University rather than Google itself because the Google founder Larry Page developed this in Stanford University.

This algorithm may be functional to any collection of entities with mutual quotations and references. Page Rank depends on the individually self-governing personality of the web by using its big link structure as a meter of an one page’s importance. In essence, Google depicts a link from page X to page Y as a vote, by page X, for page Y. But, Google looks at more than the complete number of votes, or links a page has; it also checks the page that casts the vote. Votes caste by pages that are themselves “significant” weigh more greatly and help to make other pages “significant”.

Google gives a numeric weightage from 0-10 to each webpage on the Web; this PageRank denotes a site’s significance with Google. The scale for PageRank is logarithmic like the Richter scale and approximately based upon number of incoming links as well as significance of the page giving out that link.

In different words, a PageRank is the outcome of a “vote count” among all other pages on the Internet about how significant a page is. A link to a page is counted as a vote. The PageRank of a page gets change regularly and relies on the amount and PageRank metric of all pages that link to it (”inbound links”). A page which is linked to by a lot of pages with high PageRank gets a high rank for itself.

Fake PageRank - Although the PageRank revealed in the Toolbar (Google Toolbar) is taken to be as resulting from a truthful PageRank for a majority of sites, it must be pointed out that this value is also simply changeable. An existing error is that any low PR page that is redirected, via 302 server header or “Refresh” Meta tag, to a high PageRank page makes the lesser PR page to acquire the PR of the target page. In theory a new, PR0 page with no inbound links can even be redirected to a site like Google.com - which is PR 10 - and in the next PageRank update the PR of the new page will be moved to PR10. This method, is also called “302 Google Jacking”, is a recognized fault or bug in the structure. Any page’s PR can be spoofed to a higher or lower figure of the webmaster’s option and only Google can access the real PageRank of the page. Spoofing is usually checked by making a search in Google for a URL with doubtful PageRank, as the results will show the URL of a completely dissimilar site in results.

The following is a complete guide to SEO, a concise list of SEO advice, tips, and tricks — Everything ever mentioned about search engine optimization (SEO), listed in no particular order:

  • Title tags should include good and specific keywords
  • Include a relevant title tag in each separate page of your website
  • Just like the title tag, the meta description tag should include good and specific keywords
  • Include keywords in your meta tag even though it has little bearing anymore
  • Submit new sites to search engines
  • Use your keywords on the on-page text
  • If your site has dynamic URLs, rewrite them to static html URLs
  • Google has a “sandbox” effect for new domain names — it doesn’t give sites with new URLs good placement in search results until it “trusts” the site, which usually takes 8 months
  • MSN gives higher ranking to fresh content and new sites
  • Get inbound links to your site. 1-way links are best, but 2 way link exchanges also have merit
  • Try to get links to your site from related sites
  • Links from sites with a high “TrustRank” are more significant
  • Get links from “authority” sites
  • Get links from blogs
  • Get links from ezine articles
  • Get “deep” links
  • Try to create “link bait”
  • Don’t seek links to your site from FFAs
  • Don’t link to “spammy” sites from your own site
  • Use anchor text with keywords in links to your site
  • Apply to be listed on high ranking directories such as DMOZ, Yahoo, and BOTW
  • Don’t use blackhat SEO techniques
  • Don’t try to “trick” search engines with hidden text, hidden links, or doorway pages or your site will get banned from search results
  • Don’t use hidden text on your site
  • Name each image on your site via the Alt tag
  • The physical location of your server affects search results placement. If you seek traffic from The U.S. have your server physically located in The U.S.
  • Create a sitemap and submit it to search engines
  • Try to stay away of duplicate content
  • Read the WebProWorld Forum
  • Read search engine optimization blogs like johnon.com
  • Register your domain name for more than one year
  • Avoid using frames
  • Use “absolute links” rather than “relative links” in your site’s internal linking scheme
  • Avoid intentional spelling mistakes
  • Use H1 tags for headlines
  • Use CSS to reduce page size
  • Experiment with different keyword densities
  • Experiment with different keyword prominence (where on the page you place your keywords)
  • Have pages that don’t take a long time to load

SEO - Search Engine Optimization - is a process to optimize your website position in Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs), which means your website should appear at the first ranking for specific keywords on the first page of any search engines.

Why to do SEO? First it maximizes your web traffic because it’s the most visible in surfers’ search. The more visitors your website has the better your conversion rates and ROI are and thus the higher your profit is.

Next unlike paid marketing, organic marketing or SEO is much more cost effective. You won’t have to pay for the traffic or the clicks themselves. More than that, if you have time and knowledge, you can generate traffic yourself so your organic traffic can be completely free.

The matter relies on how to do SEO effectively to get the most out of it, which means you can get massive targeted traffic within your time and money budget. Some webmasters will opt to do everything themselves. However, they often get stuck half way being hopeless to wait for their website to get high rankings and the traffic to come.

The reasons can be simply either they are not aware of the latest Internet Marketing techniques which are being developed day by day by professional Internet Marketers, or they just aren’t doing them the correct ways. Another reason can be they don’t have that much time to manage and complete the SEO process and leave it undone without having any results yet.

For those reasons, most of online business owners nowadays choose to outsource to reliable Search Engine Optimizers (SEOs). Among the leading SEOs in the current market, Traffic Assistants can be considered the best with their core competency in exclusive internet marketing services provided by professional internet marketers.

With the growing competition in the online business it has become really difficult for any website to perform the best on a regular basis. Several websites are already existing and number of other sites are waiting in the que to join this online world. It is a vicious circle of Internet business where a site that is not the top ranking today might struggle tomorrow to achieve the same position. Well! To maintain a consistency in the performance of the website we have SEOs. These professionals work hard in order to make the website perform well throughout by bringing it on the top rankings of a search engine.

It is the process of search engine optimization that brings a website to the top most ranking of a search engine. Once the site manages to climb the top rankings then it helps to attract more visitors. More traffic on a site helps in better online promotion and of course large revenue generation as well. A SEO is a person who looks into the website balancing from every possible angle. Some of the guidelines for site optimization are:

Webpage optimization that includes optimized content, optimized images, optimized online advertisements etc.

Placing adequate amount of keywords, neither too many nor too less. This helps to attract the visitors in search of information related to those keywords.

Make use of promotional blogs in order to reach close to search engine rankings.

Looking into technical aspects like meta tags, urls etc

So from above guidelines one can now judge the role of a SEO and what all tips this person follows to improve the site performance. Several online websites also give information about SEO tools and referring such sites can be beneficial for a person planning to join Internet business. Follow the latest norms of a search engine and ask the SEO to work accordingly on your website and make you win the race of website performance.

Link Building, simply enough is the process of getting links from other websites to point at your site.

This is the way that Google and other Search Engines, such as Yahoo, MSN, ASK, etc assess the popularity of a particular website. Much in the same way that an election works, so does linking; the person with the most votes wins. The website with the most links pointing at it gets the highest in the search engine rankings, or SERPs. (Search Engine Results Pages).

Larry Page and Serge Brin; the founders of Google, devised a special way of counting all these links, called PageRank. PageRank is the basis of Google and how it works. The maths and science behind pagerank, is quite complicated, but in a nutshell, it is an algorythmn that calculates all the links on the Internet. It then gives a score to a webpage, based on the amount of links that website page is receiving. It works by both assessing the links to that webpage and from that webpage. A link to a webpage is called a backlink. But be aware all links are not the same.

This is a very important point to remember when link building. For example: If I have 10 links pointing at a webpage and 1 link from that webpage, that one link is going to be very powerful. If I have 1 link to a webpage and 10 links from that webpage, those 10 links will not be very powerful.

Have a look at the pagerank toolbar from Google. You can add this to your google toolbar. Although it is not very accurate, (Google for trade reasons will never give a completely accurate picture) it is a fantastic way of assess the value of the link you are getting. The pagerank tool gives a score from 1 to 10 of the importance of that website. (how many links it has pointing at it) No one knows if this is entirely accurate apart from the people at Google, but it will show you how the pagerank score is created.

It is always best to get links from webpages with a highpage rank. For example if you got the BBC (which has a pagerank of 9) to link to your website from their home page - your job as an SEO would probably be over! This is because the BBC website is one of the best websites on the Internet. It has hundreds of thousands of links, thousands of pages with unique well written content.

It is nearly impossible to get links from pages with a pagerank over 6, because of the value of these links. A good rule of thumb is never bother with webpages with a pagerank of 0. The best you are likely to get is 1-3. In my experience the best I have every got is a 6, but this took a lot of wrangling, trading, exchanging my own links.

Pagerank only works as a guide to getting links. Sometimes a website is waiting to have a pagerank score added to it. If you think the website looks good, is related to yours and could be valuable resource - get the link anyway!

It’s well known throughout the SEO industry that quality one-way links are the lifeblood of your rank building strategies. And while quality is certainly an important factor here, so is quantity. There is a myriad of different way to gather these links, some of them ethical and proper, and some of them are less so. The article will cover three of the more reliable and consistent means to develop those one-way links.

The first SEO tactic is Article Marketing. This one has been around for a while, but is still a valid method for obtaining links. The process works by first writing an article that is somehow beneficial to the community at large. What this means is that you must not write a lot of self-promotional drivel. You have to write something that is legible and valuable.

Once the article is written you submit it to various sites around the net. These sites make the article available for others to reprint on their own sites which will, in turn, continue to increase the number of links to your site.

There are some old tricks here that need to be avoided as well. There are a lot of claims by companies that they can automate both the writing and submission processes. However, subscribing to these systems really just makes you that annoying person that spams the submission sites with pages and pages of gibberish. You never want to be that person.

Article marketing as part of your SEO strategies, then, can be a strong foundation, a way of building up a constant stream of new and valid links. And maybe even some traffic.

The next link building tactic is to follow in the steps of your competition. This begins with your keyword research (which should have happened at the beginning of your SEO campaign) and research into what your competitors are targeting. Then you can discover where their links are coming from. And once you’ve accomplished that task, you can seek out a link from them as well.

Again, you have to be careful and avoid certain behaviors. First, don’t just spam-email a number of vaguely related sites. These requests just end up in the junk email pile, if they don’t seriously annoy the site manager first. Second, don’t beg. Give them a real reason to want to link to you, and it will happen. By offering something of value to the community you are targeting you can naturally encourage the others to link to you just as they did to your competition.

The third SEO link building tactic is to use blog comments. Community is becoming more and more important in the online and Internet marketing worlds. Not only should a company maintain a blog, but they should actively follow other blogs in their industry as well.

In this link recruitment tactic, however, the links should actually be considered a secondary benefit. Just like asking for links, you should be honestly adding something to the conversation at hand. And that means you cna’t just jump from blog to blog leaving comments like “great post” or “U R so SMRT.” When you leave comments like that you are not fooling anyone. And you might just earn the annoyance of the blogger who could decide to delete the worthless comments.

Other comment etiquette includes always leaving quality comments, i.e. Spelling errors and grammar mistakes won’t endear you to potential visitors. When you fill in the name field you should not stuff it with keywords. This is obvious spam. And when you do include a link, use the URL field. That’s what it’s there for. And just like articles, trying to post the same-but-slightly-different comment again and again or across multiple blogs will get them deleted by most bloggers.

By employing these methods consistently in your SEO campaign you can begin to increase your rankings and develop a strong reputation in the online realm.

Always remember that you have to write the good original focussed content yourself to ensure that the spiders see it as original. What you need to do from a search engine optimisation angle, is to start writing the press release content first. Submit that content to all the submission areas like your blogs, forums, press releases and article submission companies. However, before you submit your original press release content, to these many submission areas, to ensure original content for the Google spider, you need to add another paragraph on each occasion, before submission, to each post before you submit or post it to the relevant submission company.

This is critical and is one of the basic rules of effective and successful SEO. Do not submit the same material to every submission company, because keep in mind that a one word change in a website or a content submission makes it original content from the Google Spider’s Eye. So, to ensure that you have original content, add at least a few sentences or better still, a whole extra paragraph to the content of your post on each occasion before you submit it.

This saves you a massive amount of time as each article does not have to be completely unique. Remember that each submission area will create a different link for each post that you submit with the extra paragraph of information. These are the back links that are vital and critical to point to your website that you are referring to in the content and this will drive it to the top of the search engines. So each link is unique and each post has a paragraph of unique content when compared to the previous submission.

A word of advice here is to build your own website to promote whatever business you are involved in. It is absolutely essential for you to build your own website to promote whatever you decide to market on the internet. The problem with most Affiliate websites is that every body has the same splash page and they all share the same splash pages. This is not good for search engine optimisation. So build your own informational website to promote your product and service. Place your business url in your website and then promote that website which you have created by applying all the techniques that have been discussed here previously and in the future.

Start a Community of Websites

One of the easiest ways to gain backlinks is to start other websites and have them linked to yours. Blogs are a great way to get traffic because there’s no cost, they provide free traffic, and are easily searchable throughout the blogging community. I’ve seen other various websites that target a younger audience even using myspace as a source of traffic and backlinks. And the list goes on and on for other quick sites you can start with a good amount of traffic.

Email Campaigns

Some people are hesitant to do this because they think no one would ever go to their site if the email even gets opened, or they have no idea who to email a promotion letter to. While the person who doesn’t have an idea of his audience can easily fix this problem, I’d say for every website that has updated content that isn’t gibberish, somebody has to like it and for every email sent out, there is probably at least 10% that the email gets opened if you target your audience precisely. Give yourself some confidence, and keep in mind that none of these techniques would get your website blacklisted or has any risk to it, except for wasting your time. But if you have the time to waste, research on who your audience is, get a list of emails of your audience and compile it in an excel sheet, and start your email campaigns. One person that I work with has a job site, which gets employers and job seekers together. Well all job sites needed jobs, so he started emailing to a number of colleges and got links for Rutgers, Harvard, and other colleges across the nation. Doing this boosted his Google rankings from 2/10 to 6/10. Just keep in mind that 1 email will not do the trick. You need to keep emailing the people in your excel sheet, but change the content of the email each time you do so.

Unless you don’t a good amount of time to spend on getting backlinks, I wouldn’t worry about how well your methods are working. Most of the techniques listed above as well as others you might think of should give you some increase in traffic that would last a very long time, as well as boosting your search engine rankings. These things suck up a lot of time, but the rewards can be high.

Using keywords correctly in your internet marketing is a very important part of your online marketing as it relates directly to your search engine ranking. In other words, they can determine what google page your site lands on when keywords are entered into Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc., search engines.

Keywords are based on your article or website topic and content. Your keywords should be determined before writing the article or creating the website. Why? It is important that the keywords you choose are part of the heading and description of your page. In addition to increasing your SEO ratings, keywords in your title and description are also helpful to your readers or those searching for your topic.

Keywords should also be found throughout the content. The keywords are a reflection of the theme and intent of the page. Often search engines give more weight to the beginning of the page or article; therefore, you want to make sure you have them near the top of the page. Keywords should be spread throughout your text but not overused as they can then be detrimental to your rankings. Your text should be relevant to the subject matter and sound normal to the average user.

Keywords should always be used within your links. The linking text or anchor text is what the people click on to get to another page or resource. That text including the preceding phrases and following phrases needs to be chosen carefully. If you are linking to your company page within a blog or some other page, the name of your company should be the anchor text. For example, if I am selling green widgets, then my anchor text should be specifically green widgets. The phrases following may describe or say something about my green widgets that include keywords or phrases. Google may give you extra points and that can mean the difference between being on the first page or listed at all.

Two types of links are Internal and External. Internal links are within your control and should be optimized. They are used to move from one page to another or one blog or article to another. Never use words like Keep reading or click here or home as your anchor text. In addition use a variety of keywords that describe the post you are linking to in order to keep your readers interested and provide more information for search engines. External links are more difficult to control as those are external sites and links to your site.

Choosing keywords and links takes time but is well worth the practice and effort to optimize your site.
