Designing Web 2.0 Software

Filed under: Uncategorized — w52 at 11:52 pm on Thursday, November 20, 2008

If you want to enter the business of designing software applications that fit into the Web 2.0 model, the good news is there is a real market for this sort of thing. In fact, there is always room for making use of existing Internet capabilities and enhancing older methods of use or designing new ones that speak to the inherent strengths of the Internet. There are a few basic tips you should keep in mind that will help provide you with food for thought. Here are a few basic ideas to get you started.

First, keep in mind that software with a Web 2.0 touch will go one step beyond older applications. That is, your software design will need to provide all the functions and features of older software packages, but add something a little new and innovative. These extra perks will be one of the things that will set your offering apart from other software applications, and thus help you establish your reputation as being an innovator in the Web 2.0 arena. Keep in mind the perks need to be something a little more effective than simple smoke and mirrors. You want these extras to add real value to the overall experience of the user of the newly designed application.

Next, you may be interested in configuring your Web 2.0 software package so that it has limited ability to function in an offline environment, but really comes alive when used in an online arena. Games are a good example of this type of thing. For example, you may want to make sure the game will work fine without an Internet connection, so that it can be enjoyed even when an Internet connection is not readily available. However, when engaged in an online situation, the game blooms with additional features and functions that help to enhance the experience for the gamer. Essentially, this provides the end user with the best of both worlds.

Last, your Web 2.0 software should be user friendly. Nobody likes complicated software that takes multiple steps to perform the most common tasks. If you keep the overall function simplistic, this will help make the usability of the program much more attractive to a larger audience. As you work on the basic design, you may be surprised at how easy it is to find ways to streamline a portion of a common process and still add in several elements that provide an added value that the end user will see as a bonus rather than as adding more work to the mix. One work of caution - while you want plenty of bells and whistles, make sure each feature can be accessed with ease.

Why the Title Tag is Important Concerning SEO

Filed under: Uncategorized — w52 at 11:17 pm on Thursday, November 20, 2008

An important part of learning is the ability to analyze a situation and once a person understands why something was done and why something works when done a certain way, the person gains the ability to understand and thus to analyze.

So with this in mind, let’s look at why the title tag is important concerning SEO.

What is a title tag?

It is one of the tags utilized with HTML, which is short for Hypertext Markup Language. This is the most common language used for web page development.

For this post, I will not go into the discussion of HTML because it is a subject that has many well-written books on the subject along with having entire courses provided for it in colleges and technical schools.

In relation to search engine optimization, I will say that to be able to be proficient with SEO, you must understand and use HTML because the web pages that you will create or work with in relation to search engine optimization contain HTML code.

There is no getting around this fact. If you want to learn and use SEO, you must learn at least on a basic level HTML.

I will provide posts regarding HTML in the future to address this very very important aspect in relation to SEO; but for this post, we will focus our discussion on the title tag.

The title tag contains the title for a web page. It is constructed as displayed in the example below:

As shown in the example, the title contained in the title tag is “The Title”. The manner in which this tag is constructed and displayed is based on HTML.

You can place in the title tag almost any text you wish to be the title of the web page. However, in relation to search engine optimization, it is most effective when it includes the keywords and/or keyword phrases for the web page and these same keywords and/or keyword phrase are contained within the text on the web page.

Keywords and/or keyword phrases are the words that the web page content is centered around throughout the web page. The keyword and/or keyword phrases are generally used throughout the web page in a natural reading nature but are prominent in their appearance and use.

The reason why the title tag is important in relation to search engine optimization is because the tag is important to search engines. The title tag is a very important part of the criteria used by all search engines in determining the search engine ranking for web pages in their databases regarding specific keywords and keyword phrases.

Therefore, if you want to rank well for a certain keyword or keyword phrase on a web page, one of the main optimization tasks you will want to do for the web page is to place the keywords or keyword phrases in the title tag.

However, remember what I said earlier about using the keywords or keyword phrases prominently throughout the web page content because search engines through their algorithms determine what is important on a web page by analyzing the title tag and determining if what is placed in the title tag is an important aspect of the content contained on the web page.

Now by no means is this all that is considered by search engines and their algorithms in determining how web pages will be ranked in their search engine results.

There is much more involved with how a web page ranks for keywords or keyword phrases. The title tag is just one aspect. Yes, an important aspect; but still only one aspect.

Used only by itself, you will most likely not rank well using just the title tag in your optimization efforts unless you are trying to rank for a non-competitive keyword or keyword phrase that no one is actually searching for on a regular bases.

If you are optimizing a web page, the title tag should be one aspect of your optimization work. There is much more to be done to successfully rank well for keywords and/or keyword phrases that people actually take the time to search for at search engines.

So use the title tag in all your SEO efforts; but understand why the title tag is important. There is much more to learn about the title tag. This post is an introduction to this optimization task. Learn as much as you can about the title tag and how search engines view and analyze the title tag.

Five Ways an SEO Services Company Helps Your Website

Filed under: Uncategorized — w52 at 9:53 pm on Thursday, November 20, 2008

When you start a new web company or create a new website, one of your first questions will be “how do I get traffic?” After all, traffic means more sales, more clients, more advertisers… and more profits. And though there are paid methods you can use to get traffic, the best traffic comes from the search engines. Search engine traffic is free, targeted, and long lasting. Which is why implementing search engine optimization for your site is so important.

In searching for ways to bring the search engines (and visitors) to you site, you may have considered contracting SEO services. But if you have never contracted a services company before, you may not know if it is worth it. Do you even want a professional for your site? It sure will. For five very important reasons.

1. Expert knowledge. As a webmaster, you have access the limitless material about search engine optimization. There are webmaster and forums to look at, and lots of paid courses, “tricks,” and materials. But no matter what you read, you will never be able to amass the knowledge that an SEO services professional has. Why is that? Because you have to focus on other elements of your website. A professional can focus 100 percent on search engine marketing… because they do search engine optimization, and nothing else.

2. Professionalism. Because SEO services companies focus exclusively on search engine optimization methods, they work hard on expanding their knowledge. They are professionals. And a big part of doing Internet marketing as a profession is using little known methods that webmasters cannot implement on their own. These techniques include customer psychology, semantics, website usability, etc.

3. Results. You can scour the internet for optimization tips and ideas. You can do almost everything you read about, including link building and keyword optimization. Even so, your results will not be as good as those you would get using SEO services. And why? Because a service company knows and uses the methods that you do… but also uses methods you cannot. An SEO services company can get the sort of traffic and ranking results that you will not see on your own.

4. Freeing up time. Optimizing your site for Google and its buddies takes some time. And generally a lot of it. You have to read up on new search engine news and methods, write content and articles, and build links. This does not just mean work… it means time. Allowing an SEO services company to do all that for you frees up time for you to focus on other aspects of your website.

5. Cost effectiveness. When looking into SEO services, they might on first glance seem too costly But that is only when you look at them on the outside. In reality, you cannot afford not to use a professional. Because doing search engine optimization on your own also costs money… and you end up spending more than you should on wasteful “tricks” and resources that cannot help you. Though using a professional company means spending money, it is a much more efficient use of your investment.

Traffic Exchange Advertising - How to Use Splash Pages to Get Tons of Leads!

Filed under: Uncategorized — w52 at 3:56 am on Thursday, November 20, 2008

You might have heard of splash pages before and how they relate to traffic exchange advertising. But do you know why you need to use a splash page and traffic exchanges and how to create one that will effectively generate tons of leads for you? This article will cover that and more.

First of all, what are splash pages exactly? Well, they are short, hard-hitting, attention-grabbing pages where the aim is to get a click. That’s right - a click, nothing more. Because traffic exchange surfers have barely a few seconds to look at your page, your aim is just to get them to take some sort of action on your offer, even if it’s just a small action like clicking on your link.

Why do you want to do this? Well, there is something called the law of Commitment And Consistency. When someone does what you tell him to do, it is likely he will follow through on something else you tell him to do. It’s just that simple.

So you want to get the click first. This is where your splash page design comes in and how it plays an important role. You need a short, snappy headline that ’screams’ out to your visitor. You have to grab his attention here. Make it benefit-filled, create curiosity.

The next thing you may need, and this is optional, is a snazzy graphic. Graphics sell. If you can create a ecover graphic or banner, this will get you a higher response rate for your splash page.

And lastly, we need to have the link in there. Make your hyperlink big and prominent so it will get more click throughs. Make it enthusiastic. Write something like ‘Click Here To ____________’. Fill in the blank with your number one benefit.

How to Build Quality Backlinks - Essential to Mass Traffic

Filed under: Uncategorized — w52 at 2:38 am on Thursday, November 20, 2008

The idea behind backlinks is that if your site is providing quality information, then other sites will link to yours, thus increasing your popularity and ranking among the search engines, particularly Google, thus boosting your traffic.

There is more to building backlinks than just spamming your URL across the internet. Google compares titles and keywords and content of sites that contain your URL, if they seem irrelevant then Google will give very little consideration to that backlink. On the other hand the more relevant it deems each site, the stronger the backlink becomes. Another consideration is the popularity of the site containing your URL, if the site is not popular at all, the backlink won’t do much at all. On the other hand the more popular it is, the stronger your backlink is. Relevance and popularity combined form a very strong backlink, and the more backlinks you get the more popular your site becomes and the higher you show up in the search results. Backlinks are said to be the prime factor in how Google determines the placement of your site, so you should not ignore them.

Method 1: The natural way. I’m sure you’ve heard it before, but have useful quality content on your site, that way people will link to it naturally. But of course this helps none if you’re a beginner or your site has no popularity at all yet. It won’t just take off on its own of course, but this is a very powerful method later on once your better established.

Method 2: Site Directories. DMOZ and Yahoo Directory are the most popular and form the strongest backlinks. If you want to get known on the web it is essential that you register with both directories. Just Google DMOZ and Yahoo Directory they’ll be the first results. Getting registered with these directories takes time, months, but it’s free worth it.

Method 3: Forum and Blog comments. Perhaps you know of a forum or blog that has the same general category as yours. Put your blog in your forum signature and respond to a couple posts in those forums. For blogs, just post a comment on the most popular ones and somehow include your URL. Google indexes forums and blog comments, so these backlinks are valuable as long as the forum or blog you posted in is relevant and popular.

Method 4: Articles. There are article directories all over the internet. The 3 most popular are EzineArticles.com, Buzzle.com, and SearchWarp.com. They have 8′000′000, 1′300′00, and 800′000 views respectively this month alone. Basically what you do, is register at each, write an article that has something to do with the same category as your website or blog, this can be a review, or whatever. Just make sure your reader will find it interesting, that’s the most important part. Once done, you will usually see some sort of “resource box” where you can leave a link to your website or blog, you should include some incentive at the end of the article to go there, or at least let the reader know it exists. This is a very powerful method to build traffic and backlinks. Even a very poor article will get a minimum of 30 hits in a week, and each article is another backlink to your site. A well Search Engine Optimized article with a well chosen niche can get hundreds of views a day, with over 40% click through rate.

The power of building backlinks should not be ignored. If you ignore it, you ignore it at your own peril. Backlinks are one of the most important factors in long-term permanent traffic, perhaps the most important. Combined with the other aspects such as SEO (Search Engine Optimization) you can have a very popular, and profitable site.

Search Engine Optimisation Services Specialist Discusses What Is Search Engine Optimisation Part 21

Filed under: Uncategorized — w52 at 2:34 am on Thursday, November 20, 2008

Make sure that the title of your press releases, articles, forum posts and blog posts are keyword rich and specifically focussed on the category you want your website to land on in the Google search engine. Your website title is extremely important. The more keyword specific that you are in the title and content of all your posts, the more accurate you will be with your website landing in the appropriate search categories. Be aware of the minimum and maximum number of words required in all your posts by the respective submission companies you subscribe to.

If you want your search engine optimisation website marketing campaign to succeed then you need to apply all the techniques detailed here previously and in the future. How many people will take the time to absorb and apply the knowledge gained from these techniques? Will people actually study these techniques and go and do the work?

Who has the perseverance to write blog posts, forum posts, articles and press releases, all search engine optimised with unique original keyword rich content and titles, day after day, month after month, year in and year out? Unfortunately it will only be about half a percent of the readers. There is no instant process in effective successful search engine optimisation. There is no software package that will do it for you.

You have to do it. It is continuous work that will get you your first page rankings on the Google search engine. No matter what fantastic SEO program you purchased or automated submission service that you use, those so called “quick” solutions will not get you top positions on Google. There are no shortcuts to effective and successful SEO at all. You have to do all the work yourself.

So you want to make more money? We all do. We all can. Working on the internet can be a fun, easy, and profitable way to make the extra money you need or want. How can I work for home on my own computer and still live a full life? Simple and easy.

Every year hundreds of international companies (most you might even recognize and use every day) spend millions of dollars on research. They require valuable marketing information and are willing to pay people for their time to better understand the market and to align their products with what the majority of the public wants.

What I am talking about are taking online surveys. I know what your thinking. What’s the catch? No catch. You enroll with an establish paid surveys program and they’ll take you step by step on where to go and how to sign up and start filling out these online surveys.

Every day at hundreds (even thousands) of people just like you are making anywhere from a couple of dollars a day, to hundreds of dollars a week, or even thousands of dollars a month.

As a member of make money taking surveys you will have access to hundreds of international companies willing to pay you for your opinion. We all know companies charge too much when they sell their products so why wouldn’t they fully invest in the research required to make sure their product the exact product their target audience wants. What a great opportunity to grab a piece of that payout. That way you can control your income and work the hours that fit you schedule.

Does Money Affect Youth Softball Games?

Filed under: money — w52 at 12:53 am on Thursday, November 20, 2008

Media buyers..find creative out of home and outdoor advertising options for your clients.

ABSOLUTELY!

Is money the only thing that determines which team will win? Of course not. Great players, great coaching, strategy, skill and luck all play a roll in winning fastpitch softball games. However, all things being equal, money will play a major roll in the outcome of a game. One obvious example is the team with a pitcher that is taking private pitching lessons versus a team whose pitcher is self-taught.

To be successful, the coach should set a budget at the beginning of the season that will allow for the purchase of training equipment. The coach will obviously have to gauge how much he thinks his parents can afford and then work within that figure. If money is a big issue, I strongly suggest cutting back on uniform cost. Oh my goodness, I have seen SO MANY teams that had great looking uniforms but couldn’t hit the ball. Fastpitch softball uniforms can easily run in the $50 - $80 range. The uniform will NOT win any games. It is the skill level of the player in the uniform that wins games. A player can easily be outfitted for $30 and the money saved can be put towards training equipment. Just think how nice the end of season picture will look with all the players holding a First place trophy!

Each team’s equipment budget will be unique for that team based on needs and resources, however $500 would go a long towards properly equipping a team. Below is a list of softball training equipment and an approximate cost to help build your team budget. The list has been put together based on the biggest “bang for the buck”.

1) A protective face mask for the pitcher, $40. Safety is always first. Try to coax the league into supplying this item, however if they refuse you should prepared to cover this cost.

2) The ASA Hitting Fundamentals video, $30. If you are going to teach others, you may as well learn from the best and know what you are doing.

3) A Hitting tee, $20. A hitting allows for increased batting practice which will result in better hitters.

4) Practice balls, such as plastic balls or sponge balls, $40. I’ve never known a team that had too many practice balls. Plastic or sponge balls will allow the coach to make better use of his practice facility without sacrificing safety. Who needs hard softballs raining down from every angle of the field when a sponge ball will do just fine?

5) Spring loaded pitching machine, $180. This is the VERY best way to throw consistent pitches to batters in order to maximize batting practice. A pitching machine will easily double the amount of productive batting practice time.

6) A composite fastpitch softball bat, $170. A current model will cost an additional $100 so buy last year’s model on clearance. Bats are an item where you get what you pay for. A good bat will make a difference in the win column.

7) A Coacher magnetic lineup board, $20. This is a very inexpensive item that will greatly help eliminate position and batting order mistakes.

8) A portable hitting net, $120. This will increase the efficiency of your practice area and it will allow for pre-game batting practice.

The cost of all of the items is about $620. I just couldn’t resist the net. However, the top four items on the list only add up to about $130 which would translate to about $11 per player. Any team can come up with enough money to cover those items, and they would make a significant difference in a team’s practices and performance on the field. Don’t let $11 stand between success and failure.

For offensive and defensive fastpitch softball game strategy feel free to visit http://www.mysoftballcoach.com where topics such as defensive positioning and batting lineup strategies are covered in detail.

Jim Moyer is the author of http://www.mysoftballcoach.com. Having coached over 500 youth fastpitch softball games, Jim decided to put the information online to allow parent/coaches to draw on his unique experience.

Money Management - 5 Steps to Start Saving Money Today

Filed under: money — w52 at 12:51 am on Thursday, November 20, 2008

Media buyers..find creative out of home and outdoor advertising options for your clients.

There are many ways to save money on a day to day basis, but to consistently save money over time there are some steps that you can take. At the end of the year, these steps can save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars depending on your spending habits and your current debt situation.

Here are five steps to help you save money:

1. Create a budget

By creating a budget you designate where your money is going to be spent before you actually spend it. Your budget should include necessary items such as rent or mortgage, utilities, car payments and insurance, credit card bills, food expenses, amount to be put into a savings account or retirement fund, and a miscellaneous amount for entertainment, clothing expense and any unforeseen expense that might come up in the course of month. You should stick to your budget. As for the miscellaneous amount, if you don’t end up spending it, put it into your savings.

2. Limit Credit Card spending

Credit card spending puts you into more debt and actually has the opposite effect of saving money because of the amount of interest you pay in the long run. You should adopt the attitude that if you are unable to pay cash, then you cannot afford it. Only in real emergencies should credit cards be used. Additionally, you should limit the number of credit cards you have.

3. Keep Your Receipts

You should keep all of your receipts and look at what you are spending your money on. You might be surprised at all of the little unnecessary items you spend your money on. Just how much are you spending on those double tall lattes on a monthly basis? By identifying those items you spend your money without need and eliminating them, you can save a significant amount of money.

4. Consolidate Debt

By consolidating your debt you can end up saving money on the amount of interest paid. Consolidating debt can also reduce the amount of money you have to pay out monthly and allows you to limit the number of outgoing payments each month. In the long run, consolidating debt will help you track how much you are actually spending on a monthly basis.

5. Get your Credit Score

Your credit score determines how much interest you will end up paying on any loan. By knowing your credit score and understanding how you can raise it and taking the steps to raise your credit score, you can effectively lower the amount of interest you will pay on loans you take out in the future.

Taking these five steps will help you save money not just today, but also in the future. You’ll be amazed at how much your savings will add up over time.

For more ways on how to save money and manage your debt, go to Credit Management 101

Make Money While You Sleep

Filed under: money — w52 at 12:50 am on Thursday, November 20, 2008

Media buyers..find creative out of home and outdoor advertising options for your clients.

Restless night’s sleep, partner snores, twitches, exhales like a whale surfacing for air, rolls over, returns to sleep, no more snoring, for now. It’s 2am. Struggle to return to sleep, at least for a little while, before the snoring begins and reaches another crescendo.

Early morning but still dark, must be around 4am, loud breathing begins, partner snores again, followed by whale-like exhale - you’re awake again. Desperate to get more sleep, got work in the morning. Alarm clock is set to ring at 6.30am. You wish you could make money while you sleep.

Alarm goes off. Need to be at the office by 8. Feel like you’ve been hit by a bus, too much fragmented sleep. Struggle out of bed, stagger to the bathroom for a shower to try to wake up, dry off, get dressed, stagger to kitchen. Flick the kettle on, prepare breakfast, make coffee and flop onto a kitchen chair. Eat breakfast comatosed.

Drive to work, don’t remember the drive. Still a zombie. Arrive at the office, late. Reprimand. Immediately make a second cup of coffee, or even a third. Begin to come to at around 10am. Work steadily through the day, knock off, drive to the gym, work out, then drive home.

Work on the computer for a while, then prepare dinner for partner, self, feed pet. Discuss the day with partner, clean up after dinner, back to the computer to do a bit more.

Finally stagger off to bed together, eventually fall asleep, exhausted. Restless night’s sleep, partner snores, twitches …

At what point do you get to feel alive, exhilarated, energized, enthusiastic, on fire, raring to go, achieve and accomplish your dreams? One day, just not now, not today. Too tired.

Where will you be in two years from now?

Exit subsistence - enter existence. Stop the rat race, stop the lack of sleep, stop the treadmill. Turn off the alarm clock - forever - unless it is to catch an early morning flight, to JFK airport, New York from Australia, for a well-earned and overdue holiday. Or vice versa.

In two years from now, you could, if you choose, sack your boss, never have to be caught up in the rat race again, work the hours you choose, from home, or from a location of your choice, anywhere in the world, not have to commute for hours to and from work, especially not in the rush hours, sleep as many hours as you like, earn more money than you could ever achieve from your job, even with the promotion.

If you choose to, you could begin on the road to living your dream.
